Bethesda Softworks has just released an 8 minute cinematic trailer for their upcoming MMO: Elder Scrolls Online. The undeniably awesome video picks up where the previous cinematic trailer left off, highlighting three heroes from the three different factions of the game.

But, while the trailer is beautiful, doubt still remains about the future of the game. You don’t have to look any further than the YouTube comments to see the mixed opinions about the beta gameplay. On top of that, Bethesda has opted for a classic monthly subscription model, something many modern gamers are opposed to and consider an obsolete structure. However, the death of the subscription model has long been foretold, and yet recently released Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn was and continues to be incredibly successful.

In the end, you need to earn a subscription-based game, and if Elder Scrolls Online tries to cut any corners, they’ll soon find themselves among the great mass of forgotten free-to-plays.

As a fan of the Elder Scrolls series and a champion of the subscription model, I hope for their success. What do you think? Would you pay monthly to play ESO, or any game? Let us know in the comments.
