Let’s face it, whether you liked the game or not everyone knew about the mobile sensation Flappy Bird. For those of you who don’t know it was a 2-D tedious side-scrolling game that involved clicking on your smartphone or tablet to make a bird flap higher, and if you did not tap it would fall aimlessly to the ground. While this was going on the bird would mvoe at a fixed pace and you would have to try to fit through pipes that were reminiscent to Super Mario Bros.

Creator Dong Nguyen put out the game late last year and it caused such anger and frustration that he actually started to receive death threats, and after withstanding barrages of those for a few weeks he eventually took the game down. He even went so far to state that he himself had begun to hate his creation.

While this might not sound like a huge deal the mobile industry in gaming is become progressively bigger and now can’t be ignored. It is estimated that Nguyen was making roughly $50,000 per day before he decided to take it down, and once he did take it down its been reported that there were up to 60 clones of the title being put onto the market each day.

In March Nguyen had said that he was planning to re-release flappy bird and on May 14th Kelly Evans from CNBC tweeted: “Flappy Bird’s Dong Nguyen: Flappy Bird is coming back. Multiplayer. August.”
