Gamestop Seeing Increased Demand for Xbox One

Following the price cut made by Microsoft a few days ago Gamestop president Tony Bartel says its seen increased interest in Xbox One consoles.

You can now buy the Xbox One for $399, however you will only receive the console and not the Kinect to go along with it. “I definitely think we’re already seeing in our stores [that] there’s a stronger demand as a result of the price drop,” said Bartel. This will be good for Microsoft to increase their install base with Xbox One since they currently reside with the fewest number of consoles sold in this generation.

While it seems fairly obvious that a price cut would induce more sales for a console this offers an interesting point that perhaps the fan base of Microsoft doesn’t care much for the Kinect. Phil Spencer, president of Microsoft did however say that “Kinect remains an important part of our vision,” and that “We will continue to innovate on Kinect. I think it’s an important differentiator for us.”

Is Kinect worth it for Xbox One?

Now personally I’ve used the kinect on Xbox One, and it’s an interesting piece of machinery, if Microsoft finds a way to use it’s unique capabilities in a fun and creative way then I could see the kinect becoming an essential part of the console. However for now its limited use seems to not matter to a large portion of Xbox One gamers, which would explain the sudden rise in demand.

You can pick up the new Xbox One without a kinect for $399 on June 9th. Xbox One gamers what do you think, do you enjoy your Kinect? Or is it an unnecessary gimmick created by Microsoft? Let us know in the comments below.
