E3 2014: The Wii U’s Success Rides on Nintendo’s Offerings
It's go big or go home for Nintendo at E3, here's why

Nintendo is home to many storied franchises like the The Legend of Zelda, Mario, Kirby, Star Fox and F-Zero. However, since the release of the Wii U, Nintendo’s latest console hasn’t been able to take the console market by storm like its predecessor. The Wii U, which had a one year head start over its competitors has only seen 6 million units sold worldwide. Support for the Wii U has not been the best, either, as other third-party companies have since removed titles that were exclusive and turned them into multi-platform titles. However, with E3 2014 right around the corner and a digital press conference looming, is this the time where Nintendo will reclaim the throne? Let’s take a look at what could/will be announced and how these announcements could blast Nintendo to the top.

E3 2014 Nintendo Wii U Super Smash Bros.

E3 2014 Expected Games: Super Smash Bros.

Platform: Wii U
Developer:  Namco Bandai Games
Publisher: Nintendo
Release Date: TBA

Super Smash Bros. is a game that Nintendo fans are going to love when we see some of the gameplay and learn the final roster of characters this a game that is going to make a lot of people happy and maybe some pretty mad. I am pretty hopefully for what the game will bring, due in part to the fact that this title will also be launching on the Nintendo 3DS.

It’s a great way to bring a franchise to the masses, whether it’s handheld or console. This game does carry some weight within the Nintendo community and may sell consoles, but may not necessarily bring Nintendo out on top. There have been many characters revealed like Mega Man and Wii Fit trainer. We can only assume that E3 2014 will bring more character announcements.

E3 2014 Nintendo Wii U Bayonetta 2

E3 2014 Expected Games: Bayonetta 2

Platform: Wii U
Developer: Platinum Games
Publisher: Nintendo
Release Date: TBD 2014

Bayonetta 2 is a game that Nintendo has had on the radar for fans for several years. Formally a multi-platform title, this now-exclusive title for the Wii U could really be one that brings quality software to the console that just isn’t your regular Mario title or Pokemon adventure. Bayonetta 2 should definitely make an appearance at E3 2014.

The game has taken a very long time in development and fans might be wary of the game’s launch in the near future.  Whether we will see the game launch this year remains to be seen. This is definitely a title that is big for Nintendo and, it’s one that they should take their time to get right.

E3 2014 Nintendo Wii U The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Warriors

E3 2014 Expected Games: The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Warriors

Platform: Wii U
Publisher: Nintendo
Release Date: TBA

The Legend of Zelda is a great Nintendo franchise, and when it meets Dynasty Warriors, you know it’s going to one of two things: great or terrible. The Legend of Zelda is a massive universe with lots of characters, items, and environments.

So far, the information we have received from the game gives us hope that the game will be very interesting to say the least. Hopefully, with more information set to be revealed at E3 2014, we can knock the socks off of this collaboration.  Here’s hoping for success!

New 3DS Releases

Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire remakes have been confirmed and what is going to make these announcements even better is the launch dates and special Pokemon that we can expect to see in the game. Pokemon games are titles that never seem to get old. Catching all of those Pokemon always seems to find a way to stay new and fresh.

New Star Fox, Metriod, F-Zero, Console releases

Star Fox, Metriod and F-Zero are franchises within the Nintendo community that are my personal favorites.  Star Fox hasn’t seen a console release since the Nintendo Gamecube. The game which was generally received many favorable reviews deserves to see a another attempt at the adventure platform to utilize the gamepad and creativity that the Wii U can use.

Captain Falcon should make a return and not just in a Smash Bros game. F-Zero is a title that can really wow fans at E3 2014. It’s one that’s definitely needed and should be explored.

Metriod: Other M was the last Metroid game that was released. Many feel that although it was great effort, it left fans wanting more. Whether it is third- or first-person Metroid, fans would welcome a new Metroid game with opens arms. Everyone needs a little Samus Aran in their life, and there is still some potential left in the franchise for innovation.

E3 2014 Surprises

Lastly, surprise announcements are what is going to make E3 2014 the greatest event in all of gaming. The surprises that could strike fans are Pokemon for Wii U. It’s been a while since we have seen a Pokemon game on a console, especially one that is similar to the handheld counterparts.  It could benefit great from the dual functionality of the Wii U gamepad and Wii remote.

Another title that would be great is a Earthbound remake. Earthbound was a game that had a cult following and was very innovative for its time. An E3 2014 reveal would be great, as these characters have not been brought back in a game since Super Smash Bros.

Price Drop

The Wii U is still at the price of $249.99, and although it is significantly cheaper than all of the other next-generation consoles, it could benefit from the appeal of getting a price drop coupled with the recent announcements. E3 2014 would be a great time to launch a new console redesign and give it a cheaper selling point.

Lastly, although Nintendo is looking toward the future with their release and launches for latest titles will this be enough to blast them to the top. Honestly, I really don’t believe that unless they announce a title that will stop the interwebs that the Wii will be able to take over the sales. I know that the gamers are going to be happy at the announcements, because let’s be frank: Who doesn’t love E3? As E3 2014 gets closer, we may see all, some, or none of these come to fruition.
