Another round of Games With Gold vs. PlayStation Plus  is up as we take a look at what Sony and Microsoft has to offer with their updates of free games and discounts. Microsoft has felt the heat with PlayStation Plus’ line up over the past few months. In return, Microsoft may have some punches to throw back with its XBOX One’s Games with Gold, which debuts this month.  Sony on the other hand is not playing it lightly as they are adding even more games each month. Let’s take a look and see if Games with Gold is on the path of redemption to face PlayStation Plus monthly line up.

Games with Gold Line Up

games with gold vs. playstation plusThis Month delivers freebies to XBOX One users as they finally get in on Games with Gold. Players who own a XBOX One and an XBOX Live membership will receive two free games for the month of June which are  Max: The Curse of Brotherhood , a 2.5D side-scrolling adventure game by Press Play and Halo: Spartan Assault, a top-down third-person shooter video game developed by 343 Industries and Vanguard Entertainment. Both are considered in the arcade type of video games on the XBOX Live Market. In addition to two free games for XBOX One, users also receives a couple discounts of discounts on exclusive titles such as Ryse: Son of Rome and Forza Motorsport 5.

Max: The Curse of Brotherhood

Games with Gold celebrates its one-year anniversary and as a thank you to Xbox 360 owners will receive an additional free Xbox 360 game in June. The titles for Xbox 360 this month are Dark Souls, Charlie Murder and the bonus  Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition. Dark Souls 2 would have been better

A big gripe with the service was that the games featured on XBOX 360 were too outdated oppose to PlayStation Plus, which gives all three PS platforms recent or current games to choose from. Last month Phil Spenser made a statement during his announcement of bringing Games with Gold to XBOX One, stating that they’ve listen to feedback to make it better and to include top hits and also made an emphasis on adding indies.

Another anniversary is rekindled as this is the fourth year anniversary for PlayStation Plus. Over the past four years the services has expanded quite a bit to give PlayStation users what they’ve want. For this fourth year Sony is making sure that all PlayStation games each month have a shared amount to enjoy, meaning six free PlayStation Plus titles a month to download. This new decision beefs the arsenal up even more and adds to diversify the options that players can choose from.

This month PlayStation 4 owners will now have two games to choose from and they are multiplayer titles to have fun with a friend. Trine 2: Complete Story, a puzzle platformer set in a gorgeous fantasy world, where you’ll switch between heroes (a thief, warrior and mage) to complete your journey. The second is Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate, which merges the campaigns of Pixlejunk Shooter 1 and 2 and adds fancier visuals, plus some extra perks like cross-play and cross-save are available for the PS Vita.

On PS3, Plus members get NBA 2K14 — just in time for the NBA finals and the PlayStation exclusive Sly Cooper:  Thieves of Time (a cross-buy title for the PS Vita). PS Vita owners finally recieve the sandbox adventure Terraria and the 2D platformer Mutant Mudds Deluxe.

Games with Gold vs. PlayStation Plus June Overall

Microsoft in my opinion is holding back and did not hit hard this month with free games for their XBOX Live subscribers, not to mention for their Games with Gold on XBOX One. Ryse: Son of Rome should have been a free title given instead of a discounted game. Then on the Xbox 360 side it seems like this platform is just getting PlayStation Plus’ left overs. Microsoft needs to take some risks for their loyal subscribers. I am not sure if Phil and company actually listened to the feedback or is preparing to drop some bombs at Microsoft’s E3 conference? PlayStation on the other hand beef up their arsenal with six games plus cross buy titles. PlayStation Plus remains as a trailblazer setting the tone on giving back to their premium subscribers.

One thing I did notice, that takes some points off of PS Plus, is that the yearly games have been removed and no word yet on what titles will replace it. This is the only lost I’ve seen that is not cool for new comers that were advertised an”Instant Game Collection.” Let’s hope this can finally become a good bout as the months progress. In the comments we’ve seen the argument of actually owning a game versus renting, but does the value add up on old games that you can get from your local discount bin for 5 bucks or less?

Your analysis includes Vita games which is silly because MS doesn’t have a handheld and Sony doesn’t have a handheld that anyone actually cares about (including Sony given the lack of games for it). Max is a premium experience that easily outweighs more indie games for PS4 and the offerings on 360 obliterate PS4 this month. These aren’t PS leftovers. Games with Gold is a newer program and it’s giving some games that have been named on PS Plus because those were hit games. Your argument that if the game has been given on PS Plus it can’t be given on GWG is ridiculous. No reason Xbox fans should be denied any game for any reason. Think you need to get off MS’s back and let them finish making their changes. The PS4 was no where near this far along at this stage of its comeback and I’m betting you were less judgmental. So how about a large cup of STFU. Thanks.

I like how you say the games on 360 are better than the PS4. No doubt, but the games on PS3 are way better! NBA 2K14, a full retail game that is less than a year old, and Sly Cooper, which is one of the best platformers of this generation. I’m glad they finally gave me some Xbox One games, so I can’t complain there, but Microsoft to this point have given away games that they no people are not going to pay money for anymore. Rainbow Six Vegas, Crackdown, Halo 3? Most gamers already own them or don’t care (who didn’t have Halo 3 at this point?). They are now realizing they have to offer more because PS Plus actually offered something for the subscription fee. I own 4 consoles and PS Plus as of right now offers more. Newer games, better deals, and hour long trials of brand new games. Fanboys try to tell themselves that the online is better. I have had just as much lag playing Gears of War 3 as I have in any Playstation 3 game. There isn’t a difference, but it used to make fanboys feel better. Microsoft is trying, but they aren’t there yet.

I meant to say the games on 360 are far better than the games on PS in my opinion. I did not say anything about the online services but since you raise it, let’s forget that Sony took 8 years to give you party chat last gen and doesn’t have a dedicated servers Microsoft is offering this gen. So it’s not fanboy delusion. MS’ s online infrastructure crushes Sony and that is why media will never do a comparison on that basis. MS said they had 300 servers and media never even asked Sony how many they had. The bias is fairly obvious and this article is just another example.

2K14 on PS3/360/PC is garbage… can’t even play it anymore now that I have current gen version
