League of Legends Map Update

For a long time many gamers, myself included, have battled it out on Summoner’s Rift, and now the infamous map for League of Legends is getting a face lift.

While it is a work in progress it is definitely looking great.  The animations and entrance of the neutral monsters are vastly improved from the current version making them feel much more dynamic than previously.

Riot game has outlined some of their reasons for the visual update. For one, the jungle monsters are being redesigned to allow players to judge their relative threat level from a glance.  This distinction will only add to the immersion of the League of Legends experience.  In addition to this the focus is on players being able to their opponents and their abilities and not getting lost in all the colors and flashes.  This allows players more clearly see what is going on so fights between the teams will be easier to manage visually.

While much of the map in League of Legends will remain the same in terms of game play there have been some tweaks made to the Baron and the Dragon.  The Dragon will now receive an area of effect attack and the baron will have some new abilities that have yet to be fully identified in order to make these monsters feel more like a boss instead of just way point on your trek to the opponents nexus.

My favorite fix is now the two sides are now much more identical than before meaning there is no advantage starting as either blue or purple.  The camera angle is even being changed to help skill shots with their accuracy.

All in all it looks like a step in the right direction and I hope you can join for me for future matches on Summoner’s Rift.  For full details on the changes check on Riot’s Developer’s Blog and their website as they release more details on the change.  Until then GL and HF.
