Square has recently announced that they will be using streaming technology to bring Dragon Quest X to 3DS in Japan on September 4th this year. In Dragon Quest X: Rise of the Five Tribes, players take on the role of an orphan who lives with their sibling and must embark on a world saving quest when Nelgel, the Lord of Hell, attacks their home. This causes the player to choose between one of five races to play as. Using sacred emblems and time travel, the player seeks out the Ark of the Heavens in order to accomplish their adventure.

Dragon Quest X is already out in Japan on Wii, Wii U, Windows, and Android devices. The version coming out on the 3DS will be similar to the Android version and will require internet connection to play. Players will be able to play with others who own the game, but will also have to pay a subscription fee. The 3,800 yen game will include a few items for game play as well a 60 day subscription. After that it will cost 350 yen for a 3-day pass, 650 yen for a 10-day pass, and 1,500 yen for a 30-day pass.

Square has not announced a western release of Dragon Quest X and fans of the franchise are left wondering if they will see any Dragon Quest games in the future. Due to the low sales of the Dragon Quest franchise in western regions compared to eastern regions, as well as the required subscription cost to play, it is fairly doubtful that Dragon Quest X will make it over seas. Yet Dragon Quest fans can still hope that other installments, and maybe even the new in works Dragon Quest game, will make it to western shores.
