Hand of Fate

Hand of Fate, Defiant Development’s latest work, is available through an early access purchase on steam for $25.  The project was funded through kickstarter and met its goal of $50,000.

What is Hand of Fate?

As you can see from the trailer Hand of Fate uses a card system to randomly generate your adventure or dungeon experience.  This deck-building is combined with a combat system that many have likened to Batman: Arkham Asylum for a unique melding.  You build the deck and then play through it.  You know beforehand what equipment and creatures you will have but the order is completely random.  This is a variation of a system known as rogue like and the player makes decisions throughout each quest as seen in the trailer such as whether to loot a heavily guarded chest or to just move on.

The cards drawn come to life with enemies ranging from bandits to large minotaur bosses.  As players defeat more bosses at the end of each adventure they unlock new and more rare cards to either challenge or equip themselves in the next one.  Beware,  if you die on your quest before reaching the boss you must start from the beginning before you can move on to the next one.

Hand of Fate

Hand of Fate will be released in the final quarter of this year on PC and PlayStation 4.  Players will be able to enjoy the experience on PlayStation Vita in the first quarter of 2015.  The unique play style combined with next gen graphics or powerful PC systems will make Hand of Fate a joy to watch and play.  Until then there is still the Steam early access to get in on the action before the game is officially released.  Good luck and may fortune smile upon you.
