Electronic Arts E3 Press Conference: A Summary

Electronic Arts E3 Press Conference: A Summary

As we started into the Electronic Arts E3 Press Conference today there were a few things many of us were anxious to learn about. The anticipation, for me, centered around Battlefield Bad Company 3, Mass Effect 3, and SSX. As the conference began we soon discovered so much more in the works from EA.

The conference began with EA & BioWare’s Mass Effect 3 Presentation.  Casey Husdson spoke of  how Mass Effect was “designed to be a trilogy” and continued to say that  “longtime fans of the franchise will see how all of their choices have lead to the breaking point.” “ This is ALL OUT GALACTIC WAR.” He said.  In the demo Shepard attempts to destroy a reaper base. The game play was really compelling, high action, and included large scale action combat. Casey then showed new gameplay trailer “Fall of Earth”

Mass Effect 3 will see release on March 6 2012

EA then went on to discuss that should expect new games and new services over the next year.

Origin.com  was announced as the new service for viewing and downloading exclusive EA content.

NFS The Run was presented by Jason DeLong. Like previous Need for Speed titles, The Run centers on a race across the country, From San Francisco to NYC. This year the Autolog feature is weaved into the story so that every second of every race counts towards your development. Unlike previous NFS titles a new component of the game takes you out of the car and put you on foot.  NFS The Run will include foot chase gameplay.  EA then presented a NFS Demo. The foot chase portions of the game, while they looked awesome, are still a large enough departure from NFS that it seemed less cohesive.

Star Wars Old Republic was discussed briefly by Greg of Bioware. No news for this title was released but EA did show a trailer.   This trailer appeared to be included out of obligation and not because there was anything new to offer.

The SSX portion of the presentation started with Trailer. EA spoke of  “reinventing the franchise” with an all new slogan: Own the Planet. SSX will be massively open world and will include “ridiculous amounts of content.”  With a new trailer for Kiori, a beloved SSX character, EA promised that a NEW character would be announced on the Facebook fan page before end of e3.  You can check out Kiori’s trailer at Origin.com

Some things came from EA SPORTS today. With the announcement of  a new FIFA  EA Sports also introduced Football Club. Football club is a networking and community system that will bring new challenges and storylines based in real world events to FIFA players. With Football Club you can compete around the world with friends. Football Club will be available across social network and mobile platforms where you can connect to other friends and fans and gain level progression and experience points. Share and track through the football club with more features to be announced later this year.

Madden NFL 2012 was also a key component to the EA Sports presentation.  Major attempts to portray a ‘monumental’ feeling included guest appearances from football greats: Ray Lewis, Peyton Hillis, and clay Mathews.

The Sims Social by EA was announced for facebook. The Sims on facebook will strive for a more involved and interactive experience than other facebook games. EA even got in a zing at Farmville and Farmville like games. Their Sims experience will be a very true adaptation of the game.

Insomniac presented Overstrike for the PS3 and 360 and the game looks like a solid new title. Dalton Brooks shared with us a trailer that was not only humorous and action packed, but introduced us to interesting characters. Set in the near-future, Overstrike follows a team of four elite agents obliterating enemy strongholds using fringe-tech gadgets and lethal teamwork. The members of Overstrike 9 are comprised of an ex-mercenary, Interpol’s most wanted thief, a gifted young scientist and a decorated detective. Collectively, they are the agency’s outcasts. But a shadowy organization threatens to wipe out humankind. Thanks to each agent’s unique talents and a tendency to completely ignore protocol – Overstrike 9 is the only option left. Overstrike blends developer Insomniac Games’ flair for exotic weaponry and immersive storytelling with a touch of humor in this 4 person co-op action game.

Lastly Dice presented Battlefield 3. With a teaser followed by, Karl from Stokholm, the Frostbyte 2 engine seems to have opened incredible opportunities for the developers . EA showed some cut scenes before touting the superior performance that . Promising a more physical battlefield experience in both single and multiplayer, the big news from EA is the BF3 FREE service. The Battlefield 3 multiplayer demo will also see an open beta in September for multiple platforms. Trailer at origin.com next demo: live … October 25th
