Tom Cruise: How Do You Stay So Fit?
He could tell me, but then he’d have to kill me. In his new film Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, the 53-year-old actor is still doing his own stunts. His most recent one in the spotlight is the stunt highlighted at the end of the new trailer: hanging on the side of an airplane.
Tom Cruise has always enjoyed doing his own stunts. Ever since he was a small boy, he wanted to make sure that his love of stunts carried over to his acting career. His new stunt, holding on to the side of an airplane, is obviously no easy feat.
According to a recent interview in Event magazine, co-star Simon Pegg stated, “I was asking what he did after filming because I thought if I had his secret, I’d do the same. And then he told me—like two hours of wind sprints, things I hadn’t even heard of, endless hours of it.” Needless to say, Tom Cruise does enough work to not need any stuntmen on the set for himself.
The amount of work Tom Cruise puts into his body is not as much as you might think. The actor follows a lifestyle that includes eating healthy and going to the gym every day. His diet is very important to him; no junk foods or fried foods.
Cardio is a big component of Tom Cruise’s exercise regime, as evidenced by the fact that the plane takeoff stunt took multiple takes to make the shot the way they wanted it. Cruise’s cardio workout includes jogging, cycling, and running. His ‘wind sprints’ that Pegg mentioned are a good part of that, alternating between sprints, running, walking, and jogging.
To get his muscle mass up, Tom Cruise did a lot of bench presses, dips, press-ups, pull-ups, and dumbbell curls. His core exercise and his cardio to keep up his stamina are the two biggest ways the actor who plays Ethan Hunt stays in shape. And don’t forget the water. Lots and lots of water.
Even as the actor who just celebrated his 53rd birthday on July 3rd anticipates the release of the Mission: Impossible film, he stays in top shape, as evidenced by his continued work in the stunt work he does for his films. No matter what Tom Cruise does, his physical performance comes in at the top of it, and it shows through his films.
Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation releases in theaters nationwide on July 31st. The movie is the fifth in the series, and co-stars Simon Pegg and Jeremy Renner. Are you excited for Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation? Let us know in the comments below!
