A film, Straight Outta Compton, about the pop culture changing group, NWA, will be hitting theaters on August 13. It recounts the real life story of the five members of NWA, whom all brought forth a new light to the hood and what injustices were abundant there. These five extraordinary people are Ice Cube (played by O’Shea Jackson Jr.), Dr. Dre (played by Corey Hawkins), Eazy-E (played by Jason Mitchell), DJ Yella (played by Neil Brown Jr.), and MC Ren (played by Aldis Hodge).
During a press conference for the film, multiple members of the audience got to ask questions to a panel of member of the movie’s production. These prominent figures were none other than Ice Cube, DJ Yella, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Jason Mitchell, Corey Hawkins, and Director Gary Gray.
GF: I’m just curious if any of you would like to see a NWA video game based around or influenced on NWA
Ice Cube: Why not, you got Grand Theft Auto.
Gary Gray: That’s right
Ice Cube: That’s damn near NWA’s story right there
Ice Cube: I guess they just change the package and we can start getting some g- d@#$ royalties
Corey Hawkins: Be playing and you’d be like “is that Eazy E walking down the street?”
A video game in the likeness of the NWA’s story and lifetime could be an amazing addition to the gaming world. Following more open world themes, and immersive gameplay elements (like in titles such as Grand Theft Auto, Saints Row, and The Warriors) could bring the current issues of injustice in a new light to reach even more people than it already has. What do you guys think? Would you like to see a video game inspired by the lives led by the members of NWA? Let us know in the comments!
